MDS Group welcomes Álvaro Mengotti to its Executive Committee
18.01.2024
The MDS Group would like to announce that Álvaro Mengotti, a renowned professional among international insurance and reinsurance managers, has now joined the team led by José Manuel Fonseca, which also includes José Diogo Silva and Ricardo Pinto dos Santos.

Álvaro Mengotti’s experience and knowledge of Latin American and Spanish markets, both of strategic import to the MDS Group’s international push, and no less to The Ardonagh Group, will help identify growth opportunities in the above regions.

"The Latin American and Spanish markets are very relevant to MDS and The Ardonagh Group. Having Álvaro Mengotti on board, given his vast experience, will take us even further along our path to strategic positioning and growth in these regions, adding value to the business, our customers, and partners,” declared José Manuel Fonseca, CEO of the MDS Group.

Álvaro Mengotti, the newest member of the Executive Committee, seconds those words: "The MDS Group stands out among its international peers, which makes this move an extremely motivating challenge for me.  I am quite sure we’ll have plenty of opportunity in these markets where I’ve had the pleasure of working for years, either as an insurer or as an insurance and reinsurance broker.”

Holding a Law degree, Álvaro Mengotti started his management career at Gil y Carvajal, in Spain, before he moved on to Reliance National Europe, where he joined the Board.
Later, he would lead AIG Iberia between 2004 and 2016. While there, he worked closely with MDS and the Portuguese market.
He became an advisor on Latin American markets and Chief International & Reinsurance Officer at March R.S. (Banca March Group), which was sold to Howden at a later date.

Álvaro Mengotti has also served in a number of roles with multiple associations. He had a seat at the UNESPA Board of Directors (UNESPA being the Spanish Insurance Employers’ Association) from 2010 to 2016, and took on the role of Vice-president at the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain from 2008 to 2016.
